If transportation service is cancelled due to weather and/or road conditions, notification will be communicated by 7:00 a.m. or earlier.  If transportation service is cancelled, schools will remain open unless otherwise stated.  For up to date information on school closures and transportation service cancellations, please tune into the following:

In addition, the Durham District School Board website will also have up to date information in the event of cancellations.  Parents can also call the automated line at 1-866-908-6578.  It is important to note that if transportation service is cancelled, schools will remain open unless otherwise stated. 

The kindergarten program at Lester B. Pearson provides students with a solid foundation for their future intellectual, physical and social development.  Both the Junior (JK) and Senior (SK) Kindergarten programs are optional for children to attend.  Lester Pearson will be running a half day every day schedule for the 2012-2013 school year.  Preregistration for JK and new SK students will begin on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 9:30 a.m.  Parents can phone the school to preregister and registration packages will be mailed out at a later date.  To attend JK, a child must be four years of age by December 31, 2012 and to attend SK, a child must be five years of age by December 31, 2012.  Students currently attending our JK program do not need to preregister as they are automatically moved up to the SK level.  If you have any questions, please call the school office at 905-427-4658.

It is estimated that one in five children has a medical condition, allergy or special need that should be communicated to emergency medical personnel in an emergency.  The No Child Without program was created to provide students (age 4 - 14) with the 24 hour protection of the MedicAlert emergency information services.  MedicAlert services provide one free engraved bracelet or necklet with your child's medical information, ID number, and a 24 hour emergency hotline number.  For more information, call 1-877-282-5378 or visit www.nochildwithout.ca or contact the school office for a brochure.

Please be reminded that students go outside for morning and afternoon recesses and during the lunch hour.  If your child is well enough to attend school, he/she will be expected to be outside for recesses/lunch.  Appropriate warm clothing should be worn so that the students are comfortable taking advantage of the fresh air and engaging in outdoor activities.  We monitor the weather conditions and if the temperature or the wind chill drops too low (as per Environment Canada guidelines), we will keep students inside.

Some children and adults can experience severe reactions, even death, if exposed to certain foods.  Due to the existence of such allergies in our school family, we ask that no peanuts or peanut products be brought to school.  Students should be reminded not to share food.  With everyone's cooperation we can ensure a safe learning environment for our school community.

We are pleased to be recognizing our students demonstrating  good citizenship by handing out LBP VIP awards.  Each winner who is drawn will get a spot on our 200 Club Chart, in addition to earning a  point for their house colour.   Every day we will draw two winners and phone the family to share the good news.  Congratulations to all our students who are demonstrating good citizenship.
